My "Ugly Room Challenge" Update

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She worketh willingly with her hands

Did you see my post last week with the "before" pictures of my "Ugly Room" self-challenge?

No? Well, you need to go look at them.  I'll wait.

Rough, right?

Now let me show you what this room looks like today.  (Pardon the lighting, it was an early morning pre-dawn hour when I took these, and my flash and the lighting in the room aren't the best way to view this room.)

This is the first glimpse you get when you head down the hall.  Better, yes?

Here is the desk area.

Bookcases and cleaned and straightened.  I purged at least 100 books, believe it or not, but replaced them with books from boxes and piles.  This is probably about half of the books we own. There are still others stashed in boxes, our son has at least two bookcases worth of his personal books in his room, and I have probably another book case worth, at least, in my office at church.

The lovely couch is now ready for a nap or a sit, as is the "reading nook" chair.

And just to show you the reality, we had company coming over, so, while I did do a lot of cleaning, organizing, and purging, I also did some "stash-and-dash" cleaning--put things in a box or bag, and stash it someplace out-of-sight until later!

Another, smaller "stash-and-dash" pile.

I still to do some work around the desk, too.

And whatever do you do with old journals and sentimental things?  I read somewhere that Beth Moore has instructed her daughters that if anything ever happens to her, they are to take her journals and burn them immediately!  That's how I feel, I would really hate for anyone else to ever read these, and yet I'm not quite ready to torch them myself yet!

I noticed over on Mom's the Word that her post is about having a cut-off-time for chores--this is especially true when you tackle something huge like my "ugly room".  There is no way this could all have been done in a day--even a week, to be honest, unless every thing else is neglected.  But laundry and cooking and dishes still needed doing.  I had a funeral to attend, and church and grocery shopping and company coming over--I needed to attend to the rest of the house, too.  And besides that, you can only work on clutter and cleaning and organizing for so long before you start to make poor decisions about what to keep and where to put it--as soon as I started getting to the point of just mindlessly wanting to through it all away, or alternatively, box it all up and avoid dealing with it, I knew I needed to take a break.

My "ugly room" is still far from finished.  I need to do another sweep through the bookcases and purge a little more.  I need to go through the "stash-and-dash" boxes one at a time. (Oh, and did I mention that I stashed a few boxes in the closet, too?) But at this stage, it's at least clean--you can't imagine the dust I've inhaled in the last week or two! And it's do-able, and approachable.

My "ugly room" is no more.  Now it's just a room---not good or bad, it just is what it is, and I'm up for the challenge to make it into a peaceful retreat for this family of book nerds. I want to change the curtains, add something to a couple of the walls, maybe a throw rug to cover the worn-out wood floors, who knows?  It's still far from pretty, but it's definitely a change in the right direction!

Until next time...

My "Ugly Room" Challenge

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness
Do you have an "ugly room"?

You know, the room that starts off as one thing--a spare bedroom, or an office--and then transitions into a multi-use room--a spare bedroom/office/library/extra closet space room. And before you know it, it becomes the "I have no place to put this, put this in the "                         room" room. Or, "Put this in the                         room, I'll put it away later" room.  Maybe even the "Quick, someone is coming over, put everything out of sight in the                               room" room.

Feel free to fill in the blank with whatever yours is called.

Whatever name you use, it becomes the dumping ground for whatever you don't have space/time/energy to deal with.

I have one of those rooms.  Mine is euphemistically called "the front bedroom", even though there isn't a bed in it anymore, and it's actually on the back side of our house.  Our house belonged to my grandparents at one time, and that's what they called it, so that's what we call it, too--although, in their day, it was actually a bedroom! And it was the "front" bedroom, because it's the first bedroom you come to when you start down the hall from the "front" or more public portion of the house. But I digress.  Or as we say in the south "chase a rabbit".

Lately, though, I've been calling mine the "ugly room", because that's what it is to me.

And I'm determined to change it.

In April, when I was posting on the "Clean in 30 Days" house cleaning challenge, I thought I would get the rest of the house clean first, and then tackle this sore spot.  And then in May, when I was doing the "Clutter Busting Challenge", I kept thinking that I would get to this room eventually.  In both cases, I got sidetracked by life from my ultimate goal of Getting This House Clean From Top to Bottom--including my junk room.

Sidetracked by life, and also, I admit it, personal dread of even tackling it.

I am making a resolve, though, to quit running and hiding from challenges, and instead to tackle them--head on, if I can get the courage, or on the blind side just a little at a time if that's all I can manage.

I really enjoyed blogging about the Clean in 30 and Clutter Busting challenge, so I decided to make my own challenge, I'm calling it  My "Ugly Room" Challenge.

Step one on any 12-step program is to admit you have a problem.

Well, I'm going to do one better--I'm going to take you on a little tour and show you my problem room, in all of it's ugliness.

When you walk into my ugly room squarely from the door, this is the sight that greets you.  This is my office corner, which, as you can see, has the requisite equipment--desk, chair, printer/scanner, filing cabinet, paper shredder, and even task lighting--note the reading lamp clipped to the edge of a file drawer.  Lighting is atrocious in this room, all we have is a ceiling fan light in the middle of the room, so when you sit at the desk, you create your own shadowed work space, and with the paneling, it feels slightly cave-like.

And, as you can see, we have no lack of paper clutter.  This is my "to-be-filed" stack. I told my husband that I didn't file because, although, there was a filing cabinet and desk, there was no place to sit at the desk unless I waggled in a kitchen chair.  So I requested a new office chair as a gift, which I received--in December.  Hmmm.

Slightly to the left is the old desk chair, which actually belongs to my son, and as you can see, has issues.  Ha!  My husband thinks he can fix it, so we haven't gotten rid of it, but once it's fixed, it'll take it's place in another room.  Behind that is an old easy chair, part of a past effort to make a cozy reading nook beside the bookcases.  (See "lack of good lighting" above.)

And that brings us to--the bookcases. These were my pride and joy at one time--stacked and organized and arranged just so--but somewhere along the line we got more books than they could hold, and as we pulled and read and put back, and meanwhile, kept acquiring more books--it's become so difficult to find what we're looking for, I think we've actually bought a couple of books more than once, because we couldn't find the original, or even worse, forgot we already had it. And this is not to mention the books we bought when we were living elsewhere that are still in boxes, because, obviously, there was no place to put them when we moved back home.

And now to the lovely hand-me-down sofa that lives under this pile of clothes and books and baskets and bags and who-knows-what-else.  It's really a pretty sofa, and very comfortable for both sitting and napping, which you can't say about just any sofa.  And yet, here it is, un-sat-or-napped-upon because it's to much trouble to un-load it, and where would you put the stuff on it, anyway.

As you can see, I have all of the bones to make a really nice office/library/sitting room, it's just buried under so much stuff, that you can't even see the bones, much less flesh them out and build on them.

Can anyone relate?

I've actually already been working in my ugly room a little at a time this past week.  It has to be a little at a time, because any more time than that and I find myself so overwhelmed or wracked with indecision about what to do with some of the items in there, that it becomes a waste.  There are moments that I've gotten on a roll and done more than I intended, there have also been times that I find myself sitting on the broken chair and reading, or looking at old photos that I've unearthed, or even speculating on just how long some object has been hidden away in a box without me even remembering it was there. I've chased a lot of rabbits when I needed to be purging and decluttering and cleaning.

A lot of the "stuff" that I'm finding is perfectly good "stuff".  It just isn't relevant to who I am any more--like books on parenting small children, or hobbies that I don't do any more.  Tax forms from more years ago than I care to remember.  Double and triple prints of photos where I was obviously just trying to use up the end of the roll. Collections of things that I don't really collect any more.

So I'm working on it.

Sometimes we just get busy, and things suffer for it.  But sometimes I think having an "ugly room" can be a symptom of larger issues for some of us.  At times I find myself bogged down in life, just like I get bogged down in my "ugly room".  I have the bones--the basics--for a very fulfilling life, and yet I  manage to fill it so full of stuff--not bad stuff, just stuff that may not be relevant to who I am anymore--so that instead of feeling fulfilled, I just start to feel ugly, inside and out.

Like my ugly room.

When that happens, I need to stop and re-evaluate, what is relevant and useful and pretty, and what is not.
My ugly room is changing, little by little, and so am I.

Line upon line, line upon line.  Precept upon precept, here a little and there a little.

I'll keep you updated.

Until next time.

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 30

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness
Today is Day 30 of the Clutter Busting Challenge at Money Saving Mom.  Our task, should we choose to do so--and you know you really need to--is to rid ourselves of the clutter in our houses, by turning loose of (at least) seven things every day during the month.

Today I got rid of one thing from home--a television--donated to my church to use in one of the children's rooms.  I also got rid of several things from my office at church--a wireless router/modem that's been in a desk drawer and is missing one of the cords, an old phone book, some magazines, and some construction paper scraps left from when I was teaching an adult class on how to teach children--I made the grown-ups do crafts to teach them how to teach the kids--it was priceless!

What did you get rid of today?

Until next time...

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 29 (Hotel Toiletries)

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness
Today is Day 29 of the Clutter Busting Challenge at Money Saving Mom.  Our task, should we choose to do so--and you know you really need to--is to get rid ourselves of the clutter in our houses, by turning loose of (at least) seven things every day during the month of May. Big or small, trash or "treasure", give away or throw away, sell or donate, it doesn't matter, just get rid of it!

Today I'm getting rid of 27 things--hotel soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and even a mouthwash or two.  These are being donated to my church, where we're making up some personal toiletry bags to use for disaster relief or homeless ministry.

What did you get rid of today?

Until next time...

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 24

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness
Today is Day 25 of the Clutter Busting Challenge at Money Saving Mom.

Today I cleaned out the clutter in my coupon binder.  I have no idea how many I threw away--way more than 7! I had unclipped inserts and loose coupons just stuffed in the front--obviously I haven't been using it in a while. I had a lot of expired coupons--one or two that I made a mental "ouch" that I'd missed using them, but of them will come around again.  I'd just been dreading doing it, but once I went through and threw away the expired ones, it really didn't take that long to get it back in order.  (To see more on where I get my coupons and how I organize them, see my Couponing 101 page for the basics.)

With the price of groceries and everything else these days, it's time for me to get back to my couponing, meal planning, scratch-cooking ways.

What did you get rid of?

Until next time...

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 23

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness
Today is Day 23 of the Clutter Busting Challenge at Money Saving Mom.

Today I got rid of an indoor table-top fountain thingy that I won as a door prize at a women's meeting, four little candles/candle holders, and the remains of four solar lights I used to have along my front walkway.  The fountain and candles are in the giveaway/donate box, the solar light things are in the trash.  (They were el-cheapo to start with, and when I first put them up, instead of lighting the walkway, they just sort of glowed after dark--I thought it made my house look like space ship had landed--so I'm not sorry to these go at all!)

What did you get rid of today?

Until next time...

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 22

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness
Today is Day 22 of the Clutter Busting Challenge at Money Saving Mom.

I got rid of a TON of stuff today!

Ha!  Just kidding!

Wednesdays are my "church" days.  I do church-related visiting and errands, and spend time in my office at church, right up until service time tonight.

But I did throw away a lot of junk mail, got rid of some old clutter on the church website, weeded out and sorted some emails and photo folders, and (hopefully) talked to someone about getting rid of some clutter themselves--both internal and external.

I'm hoping that tomorrow I'll pick up speed again and "bust" some actual physical clutter, all the way through next week.

What did you get rid of today?

Until next time...

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 20

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies

Big or small, trash or "treasure", give away or throw away, sell or donate, it doesn't matter, just get rid of it!

I've been off my game a little the last few days, not too much cleaning or clutter busting getting done, but I'm trying to get back in gear.  Today I'm getting rid of some more hair accessories--some bows, scrunchies, and elastic head bands--about 23 pieces in all, if I counted correctly.

What are you getting rid of today?

Until next time...

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 15--My Hardest Release Yet

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness
Today is Day 15 of the Clutter Busting Challenge at Money Saving Mom.

Today's clutter may look a lot like the 50 some-odd cassette tapes I got rid of a few days ago, but they tug at my heart strings just a bit more. These aren't just cassette tapes, they're soundtracks--not like movie soundtracks, but back-up music and vocals recorded to play behind a soloist.  I used to sing--sometimes at weddings and funerals, but mostly in church. Your church environ may call them "solos", in my church tradition, we call them "specials".  After the choir and the praise team does their thing, then you have a "special"--someone singing a special song as a solo, sometimes, but even groups could do "specials"--the Ladies Trio, the Men's Quartet, the Ensemble Choir, the Chorale--all could do a "special".

When I was a teenager/young adult, I was part of a little group that toured around south Louisiana and southeastern Texas as part of any little Friday night or Fifth Sunday "singing" that would invite us (that was way back in the day.) Then I was on a praise team and part of a choir, when we had one, and always, I did "specials"--first as part of a group, and later as a soloist.

These tapes represent that.

As I got a little older, and went on to do other types of ministry, I quit doing much singing, except for the very occasional "special".  Those got fewer and farther between, until now, it's been five or six years since I've done any singing to speak of, except as part of a congregation.

Once every blue moon, I dig these out, and I sit down with my old cassette boom box, and I sing, song after song, sometimes 10, 12, 15 songs at a time.  Then I pack them all back up and put them away until the next wave of singing nostalgia hits, and I do it all over again.

Most churches, including my own, don't even have a tape deck as part of their sound system anymore, so these aren't any good, even to someone who does sing. (If they do, they use CDs or mp3 files or something similar.)

I just can't bring myself to throw then into the trash.  Isn't that silly?  So--for now, these are parked next to the give away/donate box, until I can decided which way to go.

And this is the first clutter-busting that makes me a little sad.

What are you getting rid of today? Have you had any twinges about any of your clutter-busting so far?

Until next time...

Why I NEED this Clutter Busting Challenge

  •  Who can find a virtuous woman? her prices is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy

Today I had the privilege of meeting Rev. Barnabas Mtkambali, General Superintendent of the Tanzanian Assemblies of God.

Being General Superintendent means for this organization, in this country, he is The Big Dog.

As he shared with us about his country, he briefly mentioned in passing that they have over 150 different tribes there, and so have over 150 different languages spoken, although Swahili is the common language used to communicate for those from different regions and tribes.  They are also a very poor country, something the fourth from the bottom in economics among African countries.

These things were mentioned just in passing, though, as what he shared with us was their passion and vision to reach their country for Christ.  Every member is encouraged to try to win and disciple just one person per year for the Lord.  Each church is urged to plant one new church every three years, and to raise up ministers and future pastors from among their members at the rate of one a year for each congregation.  They've built boarding schools with a stream-lined curriculum for those who feel called to be church planters, with credits that can be transferred later (once they've gone into ministry and planted a church or two) when they have time to pursue additional schooling.  Everything is so well designed, and organized.  They developed this plan after a nationwide effort of praying and fasting over a three month time.

Their original Church Planting schools were thatched roof, mud brick huts.  Now they are replacing them with what Rev. Mtkambali described as "simple, adequate" buildings.

"Simple, adequate." If I was satisfied with "simple and adequate", I wouldn't need to participate in this Clutter Busting Challenge.

I want to look well to the ways of my household.  I want to look well to the ways of my ministry.  I want to be able to reach my hands to the poor and needy.

I want to be content with "simple, adequate"--everything.  Clothes, food, house, possessions.

My husband and I are givers already.  We tithe to our local church, and we give additional offerings over and above our tithe to other ministries, including various missions works.  We recently paid off the last of our debts, making it possible for him to take a local job where he gets to come home every night, vs. one where he traveled all the time, but it's at a much smaller salary.  Still, we give, and have no call to complain about what we make, or give, or have.

But I could do better.

I'm the one who looks longingly at the latest and greatest in technology, and gripe and grumble if I don't always get the things I want.  I'm the one who feels it, and sighs, when I have to "do without".

I heard a minister on the radio this week--not sure who, but a nationally known, syndicated radio program-- talk about how most of us gripe and grumble and are never satisfied, and yet we live better today than even kings did just two hundred years ago. (Maybe even less, now that I think about it.)

I'm still going to be clutter busting, and I'll be posting pictures of it again starting tomorrow.

But for today, I just felt the need to bust a little clutter out of my soul.

Until next time...

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 13

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness
Today is Day 13 of the Clutter Busting Challenge at Money Saving Mom.

Today I got rid of a pack of binder dividers that I bought for my coupon binder and then didn't like, and 15 books on mothering/parenting, all from a season of life that's long past for me, but may be of use to someone else.  All of these went into the give away/donate box.

What did you get rid of today?

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 10

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness
Today is Day 10 of the Clutter Busting Challenge at Money Saving Mom.

I didn't do any clutter busting for the last two days, I was trying to get rested and unpacked from our trip, caught up on laundry, and back to my regular routine.  Today I made up for it, though, I got rid of two cassette tape organizers almost full (about 50 or so) of cassette tapes, along with a few more catalogs and a pile of junk mail.

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 7

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness

Today is Day 7 of the Clutter Busting Challenge at Money Saving Mom.

Today's "clutter" is a bit of a stretch--we're still traveling, should arrive home today, but I'm not sure I'll be there early enough to gather clutter, photograph it, and get it posted, so I'm showing you the "clutter" in our truck, which will be thrown in the trash--fast food and snack trash.  They say that travel is broadening, but I don't think they mean in the way it tends to "broaden" us.  We don't eat constantly, but "frequently" is definitely an adverb I'd apply!

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 6

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness

Today is Day 6 of the Clutter Busting Challenge--our task, should we choose to do so--and you know you really need to--is to get rid ourselves of the clutter in our houses, by turning loose of (at least) seven things every day during the month of May. Big or small, trash or "treasure", give away or throw away, sell or donate, it doesn't matter, just get rid of it!

Today's clutter is a stack of 14-15 fall and Thanksgiving themed wall/window/bulletin board-type decorations.  Some of these are from when my son was young and/or when I taught Sunday School.  Since my son is a college graduate and I haven't done children's ministry in years, I think it's time to let these go--into the giveaway/donate box.

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 5

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness

Today is Day 5 of the Clutter Busting Challenge--our task, should we choose to do so--and you know you really need to--is to get rid ourselves of the clutter in our houses, by turning loose of (at least) seven things every day during the month of May. Big or small, trash or "treasure", give away or throw away, sell or donate, it doesn't matter, just get rid of it!

Today's clutter is a "leather" tote bag, four catalogs, a wireless mouse that doesn't work, and hair dryer that barely works and smells like smoke when it's turned on--that I held onto because it was my favorite and worked really well with my hair type--when it worked.  The tote is now in the give away/donate box, and the rest--already in the trash.

Big or small, trash or "treasure", give away or throw away, sell or donate, it doesn't matter, just get rid of it!

Today's clutter is four purses, a frame, a doll stand, and a pedometer--all going to the ARC thrift store as soon as I fill up the box (which won't be long at this rate!)

What did you get rid of today?

Until next time...

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 2

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness

Today is Day 2 of the Clutter Busting Challenge--our task, should we choose to do so--and you know you really need to--is to rid ourselves of the clutter in our houses, by turning loose of (at least) seven things every day during the month of May. Big or small, trash or "treasure", give away or throw away, sell or donate, it doesn't matter, just get rid of it!

(I cheated a bit for the posts for the next few days--we're on the road for a little mini-trip, but I didn't want to lose momentum, so I picked 7 things for each of the days we'll be gone and took the pictures all in one day!)

Today's clutter is three pairs of stretchy pajama-y pants, a basket, and three diet books.  All are going the ARC thrift store.

Clutter Busting Challenge-Day 1

  • Who can find a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She looketh well to the ways of her household
  • She eateth not the bread of idleness

Today is Day 1 of the Clutter Busting Challenge--our task, should we choose to do so--and you know you really need to--is to rid ourselves of the clutter in our houses, by turning loose of seven things every day during the month of May. Big or small, trash or "treasure", give away or throw away, sell or donate, it doesn't matter, just get rid of it!

Today I got rid of three pairs of shoes that have barely been worn because they just don't fit right, a connectivity cord for a phone we no longer use, and three catalogs.  Catalogs go to the trash, the other things will be donated to a thrift store run by our local ARC (Association of Retard Citizens.)

What did you get rid of today?

Until next time...

The Clutter Monster

  • She looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness

  • ...She worketh willingly with her hands

These last few weeks at home I've been working on taming the clutter monster. It's been especially difficult because I tend to over think things. I spend too much time planning and not enough time doing. I've been working on it a little along, but as I mentioned in my Philippians 3:14 Fridays post, this last week I've been spurred on by husbands energy and encouragement. I look around and still see so much that needs to be done--I think because this time, as I tackle one layer of clutter--the surface clutter--I haven't stopped, but have begun tackling the underneath clutter--the stuff in boxes and bags and closets and drawers. So when I'm tempted to get discouraged by all that's still left to do, I'm encouraged when I think of all that I've purged.

I've discarded, one way or another:

  • Bushels of documents; boxes full of bank statements, paid bills, insurance papers for vehicles we haven't owned in years. Tax return from 1983. And every year since then, I'm sure.
  • 20-year-old towels. I kept the ones that are only 14 years old. It's process, give me a break. Plus, we wouldn't have anything left to dry off with unless I used my son's college towels. Washcloths, I'm ruthless. Towels--old towels never die, they just move to the rag box.
  • Outdated computer programs
  • 13-year old T-shirt paint
  • Half-empty spray paint cans, over 10 years old
  • Two plastic containers without lids. And 20 lids without containers.
  • Bathroom cleaners with 2 drops left in them
  • Over the counter medicine that expired in 2005
  • A prescription bottle with pills in it that was filled in 1998

I gave away:

  • Our old computer, minus the hard drive, to someone who's computer is even older and is glad to get it to rebuild
  • At least 30 books
  • Miscellaneous crafts materials that I haven't touched in years
  • A set of fake leather suitcases
  • Printer ink from our old printer that broke, to someone who has the same model
  • Atari game system and games, bought at a garage sale years ago, that still works as far as I know

And my favorite giveaway--a box of miscellaneous "pretties" that were just not "me" anymore. I wasn't sure what to do with some of these things--there was nothing wrong with any of them, they were perfectly good, I just didn't want or need them anymore. I didn't want to just throw them away; but who in the world could I give them to? I decided to start a special box, and once it got full, just drop it off at Goodwill or someplace similar. As it ended up, I showed it to the friend who got some of the other things from me, and told her to take it to see if any of the "girls" in her life--daughter, daughter-in-law, grand daughter, would like any of it. She ended up letting her grandbabies "shop the box" for things to give their mammas for Mother's Day. They were all tickled pink, babies and mammas alike! She was amazed at how well those kids knew the likes and dislikes and personalities of their mammas--even at preschool ages. (Her granddaughter went straight for the jewelry; her grandson, the "smell good") I was thrilled beyond measure that my little box of discarded items brought so much fun to someone else.

I still have a long way to go feel like my home epitomizes the dwelling of a virtuous woman. But I'm making headway.

Until next time...
