A Virtuous Woman "Puts Up" Peas

  •  Who is like a virtuous woman? her price is far above rubies
  • She is like the merchants ships, she bringeth her food from afar...
  • With her hands she planteth a vineyard..

Last week I shared pictures of my daddy's garden--this week on my food blog, I have a detailed post about "putting up" purple hull peas for the freezer

Stop over and check it out!

Until next time...

  1. Hi Chalene! You are going to town gir! Look at all those wonderful peas, how delicious, sweet and fresh, you bet those are going to taste so great in the months to come. My Mom always made this delicious dish using fresh green peas, pearl onions and a delicate white sauce made from butter, four and milk. Sometimes we made a whole meal out of those peas with sliced beefsteak tomatoes in the summer! I hope you have a restful evening tonight after all your hard work. Beautiful job! With Love, Delisa ;)

    1. My paternal grandmother used to make peas in cream sauce, only she used the baby LeSeur canned peas, and she made her cream sauce out of Cremora coffee creamer, of all things! We were just reminiscing about good it was, so I can just imagine how much better it would be with fresh peas and "real" cream sauce! I'm going to have to experiment!

  2. That's an awesome amount of peas, Charlene! Your fingers must be green from shelling them. Our peas are just getting their blossom on them. Don't think we'll have the traditional peas and salmon for 4th of July this year!

    1. Our fingers used to get covered in purple from these, they are purple hull peas, but my parents invested in a pea sheller years ago when they started gardening on a larger scale. As soon as I have time to upload and edit the pictures, I have a post coming showing the outdoor side of getting peas ready--picking, washing, and shelling with the pea sheller. We've had such heat already this years that the peas aren't making as well as we'd hoped, a lot of them have turned purple without filling out first, so this will probably be my only peas for this year--I plan to hoard them like gold!
